The northeast of Brazil is permeated with a living sense of faith and spirituality. This part of the exhibition presents the rich African-Brazilian religion of Candomblé, exploring its historic African roots and its intersection with Roman Catholicism. Through photographs, paintings, and religious objects viewers will see the colorful religious processions, festivals, and pilgrimages characteristic of these two religious traditions, and explore the increasingly popular expressions of evangelical faith that have added a new dimension to complexity of spiritual traditions of the Northeast.
